Philly   [edit]
So I went to Philadelphia this weekend but only got to see the beauty of the city through the University of Penn's campus. It was beautiful and they don't suck up the pretty leaves there like they do here. Our team kicked butt again. We got a big trophy and won the tournament.

The rides there and back were some of my favorite parts- a lot of Starbucks and Roy Rogers (we don't have those in Ohio). I rode with Bethany (Nurse Cotone if you came to the tournament here in Offenhauer) and Allison (one of the A team attorneys) and Jason (10th floor RA) in the Mockdor (the name of Allison's mom's mini van) on the way home. We listened to some good music during our 10 hour drive.

I really like The Postal Service. Mike gave me the Brand New Colony song- but I didn't know the band name and I figured it out this weekend when Bethany and Allison played it over Mockdor's tubthumpin speakers. Have you guys heard of Ani Defranco? Bethany had some songs on a mix by her and the music is really unique and really good in a lot of ways. She said that there is a nazi-feminist stereotype related to Ani Defranco- but I think, from what I've heard, that the music is way beyond that stereotype. The songs I have hardly deal with anything feminist- o-well. How bout Rufus Wainwright? I only have the song from Shriek- but it is a very cool song.

Anyway, I am just passing some time until a mock trial meeting. Where else would I be going:)

babble   [edit]
So it was nice not to have class today- but where did the day go?!!!

So much to do, so little time. I love reading Ecclesiastes on a day like today. It reminds me that all of this stuff is meaningless. We're just here to do God's work and then get our butts back home, so none of it should consume us all that much.

So (I am going to start every paragraph with "so" and see if you notice) I am spending all my time at mock trial stuff. It is crazy. I never thought it would take up so much time. Hopefully God has some work for me to do there. I think he might. I am just waiting- listening. Mock trial presents a wierd social situation for me. I am used to hanging out with my Christian friends and I'm starting to realize that I've been in a bubble, somewhat. God is definately teaching me how to understand the world a bit better.

I've never given much thought to competition. I think it's silly really. To the world, competition is everything (or so it seems at times). People on the team compete against one another. Then the team has to compete against other teams. Someone is always the loser- and someone is always the winner. Most of the winners make me want to hurl because they attribute all of their winnings to personal effort. We Christians might attribute our winnings to God. At least, those without God should attribute some of their winnings to chance. No no... it's all comes from personal effort, talent, etc-- that's what they would argue. Here comes the pride, all fat and wide, here comes the groom skinny as a broom, here comes the usher, the great toliet flusher.... (okay, that was supossed to be a sentence about pride and then i remembered that song we used to sing as children-- o-well)

Anyway... it is about time for another mock trial practice. Come and see us perform on Tuesday. It should be fun.

Later peeps,

young supporter   [edit]
My sister just emailed these pictures to me. They are of a 3-year old that my Mom babysits for. Young Alex just exclaimed to me, the last time I was home, the joy of blasting doves and deer in the woods with his Daddy. We sat down and watched Bambi and learned to appreciate God's creation.

My sister writes:

"I have convinced yet another citizen to vote for no other then John Kerry. When first asked who he was voting for he replied . . . " I am voting for George Bush because Kerry doesn't like guns." But after having a long descussion about Bambi's mother and guns this voter has come to the conclusion of voting for John Kerry. He said he doesn't think that Daddy will care for his new hat but will love suprising him."

The craziness of politics... so a former NRA 3-year-old has now turned soft and loves the little deers because he wouldn't want to "blast" Bambi's mommy.

(Hey I finally blogged... I will try to blog more in the future- I mean it this time...)
